A cracked bucket, a snapped bracket or a frame that's been patched one too many times all lead to the same problem. The job stops until someone can weld it properly.
At Paget Welding & Engineering Co., we've done welding in Mackay since 1964, in both steel and aluminium. That covers structural fabrication built to your drawings, repairs to plant and equipment and one-off parts made because nothing off the shelf fits.
Aluminium takes a different approach to steel, particularly on thinner sections, and we set the job up accordingly. Where a repair also needs a component turned or resized, our machining side is in the same building.

What Comes Through the Welding Bay
Most of the welding work we take on falls into one of these four areas.
Steel fabrication covers everything from brackets and frames to structural sections built to your drawings.
We work from measurements, sketches or a sample of the part that failed.
Plant and equipment repairs keep machinery working instead of being replaced.
Buckets, attachments, guarding and chassis work all come through the bay regularly.
Aluminium fabrication needs a different technique and a different setup to steel.
We handle it in the same workshop, including lighter sections and custom pieces.
One-off and custom parts get made when a replacement is no longer available or never existed.
Bring in the broken original and we'll work from that.
Cast iron can be welded, but it needs preheating and a slow controlled cool to stop it cracking again. It's worth having the part assessed first, because some castings are better repaired with a different method.
Aluminium conducts heat far more quickly than steel and forms an oxide layer that has to be cleaned off before the weld. It generally calls for a different process, different filler and a different setup, which is why not every workshop takes it on.
It depends on where the damage sits and what the part does under load. A repair is often the more practical option for brackets, frames and attachments, while a component carrying a critical load may be safer replaced.
